What I'm Reading? I’ve been diving into self-help and motivational books lately, and I’ve picked up an oldie but goodie: The Beauty Myth: How Images of Beauty Are Used Against Women by Naomi Wolf. It's a thought-provoking read that challenges societal standards of beauty. I also grabbed The Man Who Died by Antii Tuomainen -nothing like a bit of Finnish dark humor to capture the imagination.
What I'm Watching? 'Tis the season for football! I’m mostly tuning into Mizzou games, as they’re having their best season in years, but I’m also catching NFL action with my beloved KC Chiefs. It’s always fun to see your team win, but it’s even more entertaining to read the opposing team's comments the next day about how the refs are gifting the game to the Chiefs. I’m a huge fan of Slow Horses, the British spy thriller on Apple TV+, but I must admit this season is moving at a snail's pace. Jackson Lamb, played by Jack Ingram, remains greasy, smelly, and clever, but I’m hoping the plot picks up soon. On a lighter note, I’m excited about the second half of Emily in Paris now available on Netflix—mainly for the stunning wardrobe, beautiful Parisian scenery, and, of course, Gabriel.
What I'm Listening To? As an avid podcast listener, I’m obsessed with true crime but also delving into “how to publish a book” content. I’m binging Book Marketing Tips and Author Success by Penny Sansevieri and Amy Cornell as I delve into self-publishing. I’m also keeping up with my usual favorites: Crime Junkie, The Deck, and Noble Blood (where host Dana Schwartz recently appeared on Jeopardy!). I’m riveted and have high hopes for the latest season of Up and Vanished, which takes place in Nome, Alaska. Payne Lindsey is once again putting himself in risky situations to solve these intriguing cases.
What Am I Training For? I’m pacing the Emerald Isle Half Marathon on October 26th in Emerald Isle, NC, helping the 2:30 pace group achieve their goals. I’ve also signed up for the City of Oaks Half Marathon in Raleigh, NC, on November 3rd, which will challenge my patience and fitness with its hilly course. Both of these races offer full marathon distances if you’re so inclined. Finally, I’m doing the Goose Creek 10K in Goose Creek State Park, Washington, NC. This is a trail race with 10 Hike, 10K Trail Race, Half Marathon and 50K options. Plus, I’ll be participating in a couple of 5Ks around Thanksgiving. I’d love to hear what you’re reading, watching, listening to, and training for! Drop me a line at info@worldmajormarathonfinisher.com.
