While summer lovers lament the arrival of fall and the "dark part" of the year, I find immense joy in this season. As the days get shorter, autumn brings vibrant colors, crisp air, and rustling leaves that invigorate my spirit. One of the best parts about Fall running is the uncomplicated atmosphere, i.e. no humidity, but when fall arrives, that refreshing chill and invigorating coolness feel like a delightful hug from Mother Nature,

Gone are the sweat-soaked discomforts of summer! No more feeling like I am sizzling like bacon in a skillet. Now, I can throw on a long-sleeve t-shirt and a pair of shorts, making those miles feel like a cozy jog in a warm blanket. Who knew running could feel this pleasant?

Even running in the dark has its charm. There’s a unique tranquility as the sky slowly lightens up and the sunrise puts on a dazzling show, like nature's very own light display.

I love catching glimpses of fellow runners’ headlamps and reflective gear, creating a small constellation of lights along the morning trail. Those smiles and nods remind us that we’re all in this together, like a running support group where everyone secretly hopes to outrun each other.

Of course, safety is always a concern, but it’s also a great excuse to embrace group runs and build camaraderie with fellow runners. Sure, running in the dark can be a bit scary—like being chased by your own shadow—but overcoming that initial fear brings big rewards. You face the chill and the shadows, emerging with a sense of accomplishment and perhaps a newfound respect for your inner night owl.

As autumn unfolds and our days continue to shorten, I encourage everyone to embrace the joy of the changing seasons. This is the perfect time to gain a fresh perspective on familiar routes, like discovering your favorite coffee shop after a long run. So lace up those shoes and leap into the crisp autumn air!

Happy running, and may your miles be as colorful as the leaves!
